Phoenix Acupuncture and Infertility | Acupuncture for Fertility

Several recent scientific studies have yielded significant results regarding how acupuncture for infertility works to balance hormone levels, as well as women's physical and emotional well being, so that the miracle of life can unfold. These studies examined women who were undergoing In Vitro Fertilization in an effort to conceive.  However, the same acupuncture for fertility treatments can be used for women who are struggling to conceive their baby naturally.

The Relationship Between Acupuncture and Infertility

While the verdict is still out on whether or not stress is a concrete factor in fertility issues, we do know that stress causes other negative physical side effects.  These side effects could become factors in infertility since the body prefers an optimum environment for conception to take place.  In our culture, which is already prone to a high-stress existence, added factors such as chronic fatigue, overwork, and/or poor diet and lifestyle choices, can certainly take their toll on women who are trying to get pregnant.

Working with a fertility acupuncturist can offer women the opportunity to receive beneficial fertility-oriented acupuncture treatments while holistically evaluating their lifestyle.  A fertility acupuncturist can examine a woman's diet, exercise schedule, work life, home life, and see where changes can be made. Acupuncture promotes holistic health - in mind, body, and spirit - which creates the right environment for conception.

Benefits of acupuncture for infertility include:
  • Healthy hormone balance
  • Relaxation
  • Improved circulation, especially concentrated on the areas of the ovaries and uterus
  • Return to healthy sleep patterns
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Peace of mind
Once a woman's body is receiving a healthy blood supply, hormones are balanced , and the negative impact of certain lifestyle choices have been eliminated, natural conception is more likely to occur.

It is imperative that women choose a fertility acupuncturist who is properly certified, has a great deal of experience with fertility issues, and has good references.

Acupuncture and Infertility | Acupuncture for In Vitro Fertilization

Using Acupuncture for Infertility for In Vitro Fertilization

One of the most enticing things about acupuncture and infertility is that it can be used to work with western medicine to improve fertility from the inside out.  In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is increasingly successful at assisting women in becoming pregnant. However, the fertility treatments can cause a great deal of stress on women, and couples, in terms of the treatments themselves, financial burdens, and relationship stress. In fact, depression is a common side effect of IVF procedures.

Recent European and U.S. medical studies have demonstrated significant increases in conception rates for women who used acupuncture for infertility, preceding and throughout their IVF cycles. These impressive statistics include:
  • Germany: Women using acupuncture and IVF had a 42.5% conception rate, compared with the 26.3% conception rate for women who did not.
  • Denmark: A study concluded that acupuncture for infertility on the day of embryo transfer increased pregnancy rates - 39% versus 26%.
  • Germany: Of 225 women, 116 received luteal phase acupuncture (after the ovulation phase) while 109 received placebo acupuncture.  The women who received luteal acupuncture had conception rates of 33.6% while the placebo group had conception rates of 15.3%.
  • British Columbia: Acupuncture increased IVF live birth rates from 10-15%.
  • Ectopic pregnancies were reduced in IVF cases with the addition of acupuncture.
